Golden Freedom
At the MFM – Philately and Coin Museum, the temporary exhibition “Aurea Libertas. One hundred years of gold coins in San Marino” can be visited until October 12. A unique opportunity to admire closely the refinement and symbolic value of San Marino's coinage, in a journey that celebrates a century of history imprinted in the most precious metal.
Among the most significant pieces are the first gold coins of the Republic, minted in 1925 at the Royal Mint in Rome and modeled by Melchiorre Fucci, alongside the gold shields issued since 1974: a collection that testifies to the cultural and institutional autonomy of the Republic in monetary production.
The exhibition presents a curated selection of punches, author sketches, and artistic models, along with numerous coins minted in gold, true masterpieces signed by great masters of engraving and sculpture of the late twentieth century. Each specimen tells fragments of San Marino's identity: from castles to artistic treasures, from historical figures to universal values.
Notable emissions are dedicated to the entry into the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the WHO, up to the famous “Donna Scalpellina” by Emilio Greco. Not to mention the most recent creations of 2023, which open a new century of gold minting for the Republic.
Visiting the exhibition means adding an authentic cultural experience to your stay, in one of the most representative places of San Marino. Perfect for those who love art, history, and excellence collections, “Aurea Libertas” is a stop not to be missed to know a rare and precious face of the Republic.
